I've stopped being paranoid at work about rocking out to music while working. I've thought about this for a while now, almost all of last week and then today I narrowed it down to a few things...
#1 I seem to work faster while listening to music, I get into a flow and enjoy myself while doing the most menial of tasks. I also get distracted much less when I have headphones on.
#2 If you have headphones on, people tend to leave you alone. Unless of course they really do have a question that needs answered, or just like to annoy you.
#3 I work in a cold carpeted room (the cooler), so while I know my foot is tapping to a beat or a rythm, my foot taps or pounds are muffled by the carpet and the shaking of my legs could be seen as a way to keep warm.
#4 I imagine I do not appear to amusing from a distance, besides of course the foot thing and bobbing and shaking my head to the beat. I see it as something similar to car dancing but in an office chair where one hand is on the mouse and the other the keyboard.
#5 I know that I mouth the lyrics as well. Which I sometimes worry about. Not only for the lyrical content of the music that I listen to, but because I worry that while mouthing the words and exhaling from my mouth I may accidentally make words for other people to hear without realizing it.
But at least I don't play air guitar or air drums at work and make a spectacle of myself. I save that goofing around for Rockband, which I haven't played in weeks. Maybe this realization means that I should play Rockband more often...
Hmmm?
