House Warming Fun

Went to a house warming party where every guest got to paint a small block of wood to be used as decorations later. clever idea, worked out real well. I ended up painting two like a lot of people, but being creative is addictive to everyone. Fun times. Here are quick pics I snapped of mine...
at the size I wanted the eyes I could only fit one... But I think it still works heh.I call this one polar bear in a snow storm. I had to do it. I think I like it more than the other one to be honest. Ben just shook his head at me.

Blast from the Past

My friend Hobbs sent me a picture on his phone a while back. I suppose it was suppose to look like me, at least I thought so. Even had a Mohawk like I did back in 2005. So here is that picture and one of the only pictures that I have with me sportin' the hawk.if it is suppose to me, it's kind of comforting to know that Hobbs doesn't know my eye color. The thorax owed us money which was why we had to sneak in... ah good times...

Another SLeepless Night...

I have endured through another sleepless night, although last night instead of staring at my ceiling while listening to music, I worked in the office and got stuff done! I finally finished this one piece that I was working on and started working on a handful of new things as well. I posted a work in progress of this before. I imagine it has changed since then though. I mentioned before that I will have some mroe cutesy stuff coming soon. I plan on following up on that soon. I am thinking of starting a new series of renders where I post a new render each day (roughly). The planning portion of it will happen this weekend so I imagine by Monday I will know how it will all work out. More info on that when it comes...

Random Concept Art

There was a job for a character artist that I applied for about a week ago. I received a response back asking me to do a character design drawing to show my interpretation of a character. All I knew about the project was it was a "short animation about crayon characters and then maybe make it a web series" called "crayon killer" and the website isn't even up yet. The choice was between either a Crayon Guy "gary" that looked geeky and is a hypochondriac who wears lots of green or an eccentric, high class, woman who likes to get around a lot, thinks highly of herself, wears a lot of name brand clothing, and is loud and wears red named Rhonda.

Not a lot to go on. I tried to ask them in an email what kind of style they were looking for. I sketched up a bunch of children characters at first then a few crayons with faces and a few older guys. But I had no idea what they wanted. After a few days of not hearing any response I just finished up my favorite of the sketches and sent it off to them. We shall see what happens, but it sounds like I may be digging myself another "too much work, not enough pay off opportunity" grave here, so I'm not crossing any fingers.

here is my guy. I figured eh looked clean and hygienic, glasses for geek factor, and I figured with a name like crayon killer maybe he was a detective. I dunno, I like detective stories so that is what my mind ran with.

What the...

so I'm back to working on cute and creepy things. just some random retouching of an old artsy thing. Still working on them a bit, and will work up environments soon. Natural and Taxidermied kind of thing. The headphones are a new touch that makes me smile a bit more.I'll get back to the cutesy stuff again soon I swear!

Almost Finished...

I've been working a lot in the paint studio to finish my nerf gun so I have the free space to work on more painting projects. Today was the day that I was to put it back together and test it. After a lot of figuring out the puzzle that was the inner workings of a nerf gun I was able to put it all back together. However there was a single screw and a spring left over so I'm missing something. Though 4/5 accurate relative distance shots proved that it still works. Tomorrow I will attempt the process of taking it apart and putting it back together again. Yay!
I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out, I should have taken more pictures as I was taking it apart though. oh well, I'll know for next time. I'll take more pictures once It is all finalized. I may touch it up again with some more "aging and wear".

edit - turns out not only did I need the screw I thought was extra, I was actually missing a screw. Also that spring I didn't know where it belonged, i don't think it was ever inside the actual gun. It fires and works pretty well even without the one screw for the inside. But at least now I know how to take apart and put back together these guns with the quickness!

Old Random Photo Fun

Back when I was in college, I caught the bathroom sponges being disgusting. Since they were so dirty, I got rid of them. No one wants dirty sponges anyway.

I'll check my schedule...

I decided to plan out my week on my white board. All the things that I wanted to accomplish each day I would write in that particular square. I need to hide my markers because it appears that someone decided a new task for me for Monday...There were things added on other days as well, but not as funny as Monday's. I knew it was Justin, so I told him that if I happen to waste any time on Monday picking my butt he will be to blame for any time wasted. This is another reason it is tough to work at home, because my whiteboard is always vandalized with doodles and other nonsense.

Brain Power!

After waking up this morning I used my brain power to complete the Rubix Sphere! It is a clear orb with multi colored corresponding orbs on the outside and two clear spheres with some kind of gyro mechanism that holds 6 colored balls. Tons of fun, very frustrating. At least at the beginning you have a much better chance of shaking it in annoyance to get the little colored balls from the inside to their corresponding color orb on the outside.
Takes no time to get it back into it's original state. I of course kept it long enough to prove to the roommates that I had in fact completed it. It is not a totally quiet toy, so I imagine they are happy I completed it finally.

Strange interactions...

While at Costco today there was an Asian mother that kept staring and smiling at me. Her daughter seemed about my age, but I couldn't get a good look at her. Being the smiley guy that I am I smiled back, which in this situation may not have been the best idea. Because after what I thought was a meaningless smirk she kept staring at me and smiling. It was around 3pm so I hope that she wasn't drunk or anything like that. I walked around the corner to continue my shopping, and later I saw her again and she spotted me and smiled again. Very strange. My first thought was, am I wearing pants (which I was), the next was is my fly open (it was not). I was wearing a black bandanna and a horror movie shirt so I seriously doubt it was my "cute" attire.

I think maybe people just sense my willingness to smile or something, because most of the time I can get random people to at least smile back at me, except this one time a few weeks back, when I was sick and the whole voyage to the store and back most people did what they could to not even make eye contact. I probably looked all sick and disgusting though, so I guess that is a valid excuse.

The tail end of a conversation...

We went to CVS tonight after dinner at Arbys (which still has the best chicken bacon n swiss EVER!), to buy "I'm sick" supplies because it seems everyone in the house has different stages of some form of sinus infection. I picked up some disinfectant wipes, mints, and a make-the-room-smell-better spritzer, because I am the closest to recovery. The other guys bought those water solution through the nose things, which the thought of the result creeps me out and intrigues me at the same time. Anyhoo... while in line at the register a black woman on the phone tries to pass me and knocks the items out of my right hand onto the ground with her butt! I was pretty confused at first, but then she turned and saw what had happened as I leaned over to pick up my items. She quickly apologized and then for some reason handed her phone towards me to hold as she continued to lean over to help me pick up my items. Now I'm starting to wonder whether she wants me to tell the person on the phone what just happened, hang up on them for her, or hold onto it as I watch her pick up my wipes and deodorizer spray. I said, "I have it, it's fine thanks," and she pulled her phone back to her head, stood up, and walked away still chatting as I shoved the disinfectant wipes under my armpit to collect the air smelly thing in my free hand. Very confusing, but still amusing.

I often make jokes about big butts. i mean, who doesn't? But now I have a story about one.

I think I had a dream...

I couldn't sleep last night... again. Laid in bed listening to music in the dark for over 4 hours. I know this because my iPod died while listening. When I finally must have fallen asleep I think I was dreaming something awesome because when I woke up in the morning I still had this strange dream feeling, and an urgency to get back into the dream to complete whatever task I was currently working on. It was very strange feeling, similar to if I don't go back to sleep and see what is up in this dream, the dreamworld would end in disaster. very strange. Wonder if I will get any sleep tonight. Haven't had caffeine in days too so I dunno what this is all about. At least I didn't wake up by accidentally smashing an arm that is asleep into the wall while tossing and turning like I've been known to do.

Grrr

Spent most of the day trying to get rid of a virus on my computer. I think I may have fixed it but this reboot will tell me for sure. the Chin09.win virus! I don't know how anything with 9 chins could win at anything besides a pie eating competition, but now I know that it wins at wasting my time when I could have been being productive.

Damn you chin09 virus! Damn you straight to hell!
-eD

edit: so my pc is finally virus free. it took two days, a lot of internet research and a ton of scanning, but it finally looks like I can get back to doing work again. Found out it was actually not even the chin09.win virus but an antimalware virus. It just claims that you have all these different viruses to make the user click the balloon and install the actual virus. The virus blocks anti-viruses, and makes it difficult to install any malware searches. But after looking online for way too long for an answer, I found out that I actually had to trick the virus into letting me open different programs to get rid of the virus. it was a pain in the butt, however, I did get a lot of video game playing time whenever it was running scans in safe mode, something that I learned make me want to punch my computer less. I also have a new anti-virus called "avast!" hopefully this will treat my computer much better than AVG did. after all that hectic annoyance, I hope I will have something funny to post soon.

For Tommy

I've been working on this drawing here and there for a while now. It was suppose to be Tommy's X-Mas present. But I scrapped everything and started anew because I just wasn't happy with where I was going with it. Then there would of course be times when I just wasn't in the mood to draw. It's still not finished but I would say it's at about 87%. I worked so long on this today my hand is cramped from holding the pen of the pen tablet for my computer. Here are round 1 & 2 pencils and the most recent colored and even blurred for a bit more depth. They are watermarked and the only two people who will have un-watermarked versions will be myself and Tommy, so neener neener.

Context Error

Earlier today I set up my instant messenger away message to "is it wrong that I miss deadlines?" It was like this for most of the day, before I realized that phrase could be taken in many ways. I did not mean if it was wrong that I would be late on a deadline, I meant in fact that I was wondering if it was wrong to miss deadlines, as in "miss - to regret the absence or loss of." I could see how the former would make more sense in a random context. I find it more amusing however that none of my animator friends mentioned that in the least while sending me messages this morning.

I dunno.

Yawwwwn So Sleepy

I would like to encourage anyone who yawns while driving to not cover their mouths. It is great fun for anyone who happens to catch a glipse of your gaping talk box. It's like there is a fight inside their heads and they are silently screaming. Always makes me laugh when I see someone yawning while driving. I saw one today. Had to post something about it.
