Saturday night

After having the house to myself all day, I left to meet rich and ruthie @ their place to car pool to the Adam west show. I wanted to get there early but had no idea how early so I suggested 6pm for an 8pm show. I was mildly late to get to their house and was already angry at myselffor that, then we get to city walk, park, and make our way to the venue.
There is no one there. We decide to wander around a bit and got food at what I can only describe as fast food crepes (which on any "i" items will autocorrect to creeps), which was pretty good. Men had jack cheese, turkey, pesto, and avocado, also had some fries that were tasty. After food we wandered a tad more and then get into the newly formed line. I must admit we were still fairly close in l one but I had no idea the size of the venue. We wait for way too long. They finally. Open the doors around 730.
We were all shuffled in and we ended up on the last table on the floor, but we got to go to the front of the table near the stage.  Granted the seat closest to the stage on either side of the table was reserved, but I was able to get into the second seat.
So Close to stage...
The club has a two item minimum and I jokingly said I should get the bucket of beers (6 in total), Rich quickly spoke up trying to egg me on to my own idea.  I figured why not it's two item anyway, this should get me past my minimum, keep my thirst quenched, entertain my hands, and state of mind for a non-driver.  It did all of those.  I think since some people don't often see my drink, they don't understand that I can drink a lot and not show signs of inebriation (at least if I have eaten at least one or two meals that day), so I think there were some doubts.
Then Ralph Garmin came out as the Host of the evening, then Adam West walked out and stood right next to me before walking up on stage.  All I could think was, "Bruce Wayne is gonna put his hand on my shoulder!" but he didn't.  He just waved, smiled, then walked up to his seat.
Still close to Adam West...
It was an amazing show!  tons of info that I never knew but probably could have looked up on his past experiences and shows/movies he's worked on, Batman back story and behind the scenes info, funny stories about Batman, tons of funny stories.  It was great, I'm so glad I went.  The venue was great too, because during the 6th beer I really had to get rid of some of my bodily fluids, and the restrooms had great sound in them so I didn't miss any parts of the audio.
Whenever Mr. West walked off stage he shook 3 peoples hands, the two reserved seats at my table and one guy who shuffled up to the walkway. I think they my friends and some people at the table were still surprised I finished 6 beers in like 2 hrs.  Rich could tell that I slowed down after I powered through the first 3 though heh.
Went back to R&R's to hang out for a bit before going home and playing Lego Rockband solo that Ben rented for the house.  I had a set list of 12, and I 5 starred the first few and then just started to get frustrated and annoyed with it.  Glad I didn't buy it.
It was a good night.

Friday adventures

I ventured out to frys in Burbank because it is alien themed, and to check to see if I could find prices on computers/laptops to think about. Took a few pics, then while I was in the computer section (even though it was only for a few minutes) was hassled by 6 salesman all getting in my face even though I had my headphones on. I even tried to ignore one, until he kept getting closer asking if I needed help. I understand it's their job, but wow.
Then tried to get a lunch with some people from stereo d, only one person made it besides my roommate les. But to top it off I forgot my drivers license at home on my scanner and they wouldn't serve me beer! It was a tough time having lunch at outback with no beer but I managed.
Came home did a bit of work, then made pepperoni rolls. Tried too add some pasta sauce to them, which turned out pretty good, though mildly soggy. They are more like legitimate pizza rolls now. Nothing like from your grocers freezer cause each one is about the equivalent of a sandwich by itself...
And now I have the house to myself until Sunday afternoon. Time to watch my shows and movies on the projector that no one else cares to watch! Not to mention tonight is my evening with Adam West! I can't wait!

Amusement (on Facebook)

I find it funny when I try to make jokes on people's facebook pages, other people try to correct me or answer my strangely rhetorical questions.  I mean i really shouldn't say anything because I have a hard enough time not correcting peoples grammar or spelling on facebook, but don't want to come off being a know-it-all ass.  It would be nice if there was a way to say you're kidding besides "lol" or "jk" cause maybe im only kind of kidding and only chuckling or smirking.  And the joke may not be towards everyone so what is the point answering a post to one of your "friends" from someone you've never met?  ah the internet, where assholes are like opinions everyone has them and they all stink...

New Project Update!

I can't believe it's been so long since my last post.  man time flies when you're not paying attention to it.  My apologies though I have been busy working on a new animated short that some friends are going to help me with.  Right now it's in the pre-production phase, basically me writing and doing concept art.  Have gotten further with the writing than the drawing and making things emerge from my mental picture...  Here's what I have so far (they are each a bit too cartoony), each brings forth a different question...
This is why I can't be much of a sequential artist yet, showing characters in different angles, they all turn our different.  Anyhoo, question is Hat or Hair?  I'm leaning towards backwards hat.
Whole buncha stuff here, (clockwise from top) tendril - more detail, hovering angle (protective covering was once an idea), top  view, bottom view, side view, and finally two sketches which bring about the question.  Base rounded and spherical, or more disc shaped? Already decided on going with 6 tendrils.
Been spending most of my time pouring energy into this.  Pulled an all-nighter last night cause I was on a roll, and then it got too bright to sleep, then too late to nap, so I kept working.  Now I'm going to take a break from concept art and get back into the script...

and look for anything in my notebooks or pictures to post as a funny ha ha way of apologizing for all my time away...

Text Cleanup

I should have saved more for this purpose, but I usually dont delete my text messages until it warns me that my space is full. Ya know?  Cause I'm a text hoarder. I don't throw it out cause I may need to look back at them at some point. And here are a few ones that I thought were funny (more or less...).

Convo between del and myself about moisturizers for some reason...
-eD - "Cocoa Butter?"
-eD - "But I'm vanilla..."
-Del - "coco butter.......Yes for white people too!"
then the conversation veered towards making that a slogan for a series of shirts... (it's not totally off the table...)

I imagine like most conversations I start to ramble... considering I get messages like this...
-Del - "What ev sev..."
-eD - "Huh?"
-Del - "its a new show im workin on"
I could definitely see this as a buddy sitcom. I'm the zany rambling guy and del is the chill laid back guy that just stares at me until I stop talking, then rolls his eyes and utters the catch phrase "What ev sev..." (cue laugh track and sign those checks!)

-Lil Erin - Hows your eye?
-eD - Bloody, yours?
-Lil Erin - Not bloody.
-
eD - cool.

Del had come to the revelation that while hanging out with your girl shopping (or any girl for that matter), pushing the cart is the equivalent of holding her purse while shopping. I agree on the masculine scale it is on the low end, though on the lady scale it's on the high end... of nice. (wow, I know that was a lame attempt to not make the ladies mad... though now they're reading this and know it was just to smooth it all over... i should stop typing in parenthesis when I am thinking about what to write... damn... did it again... poop.)

Ben asked if I saw the flea market / bake sale type thing off of Lincoln Ave close to LAX on the way to work this morning.
- eD - "I wasn't paying attention to it, or don't remember."
-Ben - "Not surprised."
-
eD - "Heh music is louder and my singing is more annoying when it's just me in the car."
-Ben - "Yeah I'm more saying you drive in a daze paying attention to only what you have to"
-
eD - "True. Cars, signs, lights, and ladies..."
I liked that one. It made me laugh while at work.

That's bout it for now, I had a lil' rhyme I sent to Hobbs on Thanksgiving as a response to the rhyme or limerick he sent me about turkey day. I remember it was decent at least. But my sent messages cap out at 50 and delete automatically, also the text he sent me is long gone as well (i get a lot of one word texts that waste space). Oh well, I will see if i can save any more bits of possible ha's before they are lost FOREVER...

Eye Update (Day 15)

Kind of kept forgetting to take pictures over the weekend, then attempted before bed last night but figured a morning picture would be better.  so here it is day 15...
It's obviously getting better, still a bit on the gnarly side, but at it's not uber-creepy anymore.

Random updates...

My laptop monitor is khaput. I think it's the back light but I'm not sure. It started to go thurs night I think, then fri night it finally came back to normal color, then crapped out again. So glad I have it all backed up, now the quest for bedroom media entertainment resumes. I suppose I could just bring my ps3 back in and hook it up to the tv already in my room, but where's the fun in that?
On Jan 28th I will be going to "An Evening with Adam West".
"Holy Lifetime Achievement, Batman!" Adam West (TV's Batman) is finally getting his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2012!  To celebrate, KROQ's Ralph Garman is hosting an "Evening With ADAM WEST", a retrospective of Adam's 50 years in show business with Adam West, live on stage! From the beginning, all the way to FAMILY GUY, Ralph will interview Adam about his long, successful career, including, of course, his iconic role as TV's Caped Crusader.
Not only is it going to be a great show, but proceeds from the ticket sales will go towards the purchase and upkeep of Adam's star on the Walk of Fame. So I'm also helping the great Mr. West's star!
I also just sent in my verification materials for professional admittance to WonderCon in Anaheim in March. Should be fun if I can get in for free heh. If it goes through I will also have 3 guest passes as well. Not to mention Turner will have a boot for "the Adventures of Wally Fresh".
Speaking of Wally Fresh, the Barry mask I made will be featured on the back of the next issue, and we discussed the possibility of having each back cover of the next series to features masks that I will make of the characters. I'm pretty stoked about it.
I think that's about it for now.

Happy Fri the 13th!

Got out work a bit early which was awesome because I had a few errands to run before the party.  Turns out I had things so meticulously planned that I had everything and even my costume prepped with about 3 hours free time.  I did some computer work and like most paydays after I put my check into the atm I picked up some dinner from Panda Express (I love that place).  This was my fortune!
The party was slow and simple, a lot of people couldn't make it because they were out of town, still working or getting off of working a long strenuous schedule.  I think a lot of people were deterred because it was a costume party.  For the next party we are going to make it a much simpler theme, and give people over a months notice to get excited for it.  Still had a lot of fun and ended up in costume till about 430am or so.  Even had to make a makeshift mic guard so I wouldn't get any face paint on it.  People loved my costume and I liked it a lot too.  Prob make some adjustments and go against my rule of re-using costumes even though technically this has not been worn as a Halloween costume so I guess I could make that the loophole...
Here's some pics from my phone, there are more pictures coming, prob post em on facebook but first I gotta get them from Ben's camera...
Booyah!  fun stuff.  I was pretty happy with my mask, it was comfortable and I could tell some people were feeling uncomfortable talking to me saying it was creepy and such.  I suppose it is.  Also both Dave and Rich said something about my eye hah.  Think I'm going to rest today get some mild work done (mainly reading comics...) and then get back to a personal work heavy day off tomorrow.
Enjoy Your Weekend!

Quick Eye Update...

Day 9
Day 10
Day 11 (am) where the blood has faded it looks slightly jaundiced and yellow, but only in bright lights (like the sun)
Tonight I wear a mask so it may help having a gross eye.  We shall see...

Snitches get stitches

I probably should have waited to post all these pics, but whatever. People have been liking the updates so enjoy.
Stitched the mask up a bit, should've rethought the steps, but it was kind of a rush job. Looks pretty cool though. Going to try to take pictures of all the costumes tomorrow. It will also help with the costume contest, though I will be exempt.
I don't think I'm even going to bother with the prosthetic piece that I was going to use, but I may still use it.  I have about 12 hrs to figure that out...

Masks & Other Artsyness Updates

Today after work I hustled to get changed to paint then ended up having beer with an old friend that dropped by, but was an antisocial ass and went into the garage to paint even though he was here.  The glue didn't stiffen up the mask like I had hoped, but it did give it a nice texture.  Almost a leathery burlap look to it, though it should move like dirty cotton.
I added layers of black and dark brown paint onto the mask...
Tomorrow (it better be all dry) I will add the main stitches and the additional (just for look) stitches.  I'm getting more and more excited about this!
In other mask news, Turner loved the Barry mask and may even put it on the back cover of the next issue, which is a tremendous honor.  He talked about making some to hand out at WonderCon this March as well which would be double awesome, cause it'd be awesome for both of us...
No work on the painting tonight.  Maybe tomorrow, but it will probably just have to chill there until Saturday...

Tues Artsyness...

After work stopped off at Home Depot for some last minute supplies.  I'll have to check pavilions or cvs today or tomorrow for thin black shoe laces, because even though I got a batch of new shoes yesterday that had some spare laces they are a little bit too good of quality for me to mangle and use for a mask.  Anyhoo here's a mask update...
I have also been working on a fan art piece for my friend Turner and his book the Adventures of Wally Fresh. I made a paper mask of Wally's spirit animal roommate Barry the Beaver.  I think it turned out well.  I won't post the final image on here, but I will post some pics I snagged with my phone...
This was a test print that I wanted to cut out the eyes and such to see how it fit.  I may want to open up the lower jaw a but more but I wanted to get feedback before I made any major alterations.
I made this using some comic panels as reference and doodling overtop them in photoshop to make a smooth consistant image, then I brought it into inkpad on my ipad and created vectors for it.  I even added the cliche dashed line inside the eye to infer it should be cut out.
I had a lot of fun working on this the last few days, but I didn't feel it was at the point to post or for fear of spoilers.  But considering I emailed these out last night and I'm not posting the final 8.5x11 image on here I think it'll be fine...
I also put some more layers on my Nostalgia piece, a bit more gray, and another layer of white on the forehead area.  Picture doesn't show much change from afar so I'm not even going to bother posting it.  heh Wednesday lazyness...

A more artsy update...

It's back...
Back to my "Nostalgia" piece.  I put a layer of white on there.  It's gonna need another layer of black, probably another red to even out the glasses first though.  Then some more work.  I'm hoping by the end of the weekend but I can't tell just yet.
We have our first Friday the 14th party of 2012 this up-coming Friday with the theme of "Villains".  My original Halloween costume was going to be the Scarecrow from Batman comics, and a group of friends were also going to dress up as other members of Batman's Rogues Gallery.  But other people got held up and I didn't have the time to finish the costume properly.  Now I've had all this time since October, and haven't really started anything for the final piece until yesterday when I cut up an old shirt that had unfortunate bleach stains and sewed it back together as a mask.  I didn't take any pictures before but thinking back I probably should have, oh well...
Today I sprayed it with a glue to make it a little bit more sturdy...
After a light coating I ran out of the aerosol spray.  Tomorrow after work I will get more an add another coat, which will set back the rest of the steps I was planning on doing on this bad boy before the Friday deadline.
There is a decent amount of work left with this guy, but if I can get the 2nd coat on there tomorrow and apply all paint Wed. so it will be fried Thursday for final touches I should be fine.  It could turn out way better than I expected but considering this mask will cost me all of like $5 I would say worth it.  I may not even use my backup prosthesis, though the double whammy effect could be amazing!

Update on the ocular front...

Woo...
Day 6 with knit marks on my head
Day 7 clearing up a bit more
Day 7 still quite evil...
Day 8 about the same, still clearing up though...
shouldn't be much longer and the eye should be back to normal.  Thankfully so far contacts and working out do not seem to bother it.  Though still pretty creepy...

Bloody Hell...

It's not hell, but I wanted to put "bloody" in the title and it came out all cockney...
Here the eye updates... spoilers... It's getting better.
Day 3
Day 4 - Laying in Bed
Day 5 - I even wore my contacts today, and they didn't seem to cause any issue.
I'm learning about a lot about photography, shadows, and accidentally having certain lighting situations make things look much more menacing... Eh, at least I can take something positive out of this situation!

Wally Fresh Signing @ Meltdown Comics

My buddy Turner (writer, creator, artist of the Adventures of Wally Fresh) was doing a signing at Meltdown comics in Los Angeles on Wednesday night.  I rolled through after I finished work and got to chill n chit chat with Turner while he sold his books and signed some that people brought in for him to sign.  It was pretty awesome.
Turner doodlin up on some note cards while at his signing.
Always Gotta B Sellin...
The book is a funtastic read, and the first 4 issues have been collected into a trade that I finally picked up (I didn't have enough cash at the release party to get it and still have money for beer...).  I've even been able to read some before it was released which was a huge honor for me.
Not only that but Kevin Eastman creator of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was there doing a signing and some tattoos by the sound of it, but I never even bothered to go see him.  I had no idea he was going to be there and since I wasn't going there for him and didn't have anything for him to sign I just didn't see the point in waiting in line...  Though I did see this...
The Turtle Van was parked outside, but I still didn't see any Teenage Mutant Ninjas of any kind...
Also at the signing was the first time anyone actually mentioned my bloody eye, besides people I have personally told.  I was introduced to him from Turner who I think just met him, he called me Ned so I just smiled and said hi, to which he replied, "Wow someone F*ed up your eye!" I smiled and probably let off a light chuckle.  I knew I wouldn't have to deal with him for long and I didn't.  I am starting to wonder though if people just don't want to say anything, or what?  I have talked to a lot of people face to face, making eye contact, sometimes even with my left side facing them leaving them in plain view of my "current" evil eye.  Starting to consider leaving a large amount of food on my face to see how long it takes someone to let me know.
Or even make a giant leach or something and attach it to the side of my head, see if anyone will admit to noticing.  That's a pretty interesting idea...

My Subconjunctival Hemorrhage

Thanks 2012 for the Subconjunctival Hemorrhage (Eye Bleeding)!  Before I put the pictures I wanted to give an explanation as far as I understand it...

This eye injury usually looks worse than it really is. A subconjunctival hemorrhage involves leakage of blood from one or more breaks in a blood vessel that lies between the white of the eye (sclera) and its clear covering (conjunctiva). Subconjunctival hemorrhages are quite common and can occur from even minor injury to the eye. They may be limited to a small sector of the eye, or they can extend over the entire eye, making the white sclera appear bright red. A subconjunctival hemorrhage is painless and does not cause temporary or permanent vision loss. No treatment is required. Over the course of several weeks, the blood will clear and the eye will return to a normal appearance.

So not only is it creepy to look at, but it will last about 2 weeks and vary in color until it is gone... Great...

These are caused from something as simple as a sneeze, cough, laugh, or any kind of strain. I have no idea how I got mine, but I will strongly suggest I did not get it on the toilet...

I noticed this yesterday around 5 or 6 pm when I was washing my hands in the bathroom. I then took out my contacts and took the first two pictures...
When I showed Les he was pretty surprised but he claimed that he thought the corner of my eye looked a little red while we were in Michael's craft store.  It hasn't quite gotten better yet but I didn't wear my contacts today which may explain how the blood made its way to my iris.  Considering the images I saw on the internet (I wouldn't recommend looking it up), mine isn't that bad.
These images are what it looked like after I got back from my first day of work in 2012.  I was wearing my glasses and I was able to talk to people from my right side so I think it went largely unnoticed but I can't be sure.  No one said anything at least.
After doing more internet research and consulting my Dr associate Gen it is safe for me to wear my contacts but I think I will hold off until tomorrow night when I go out to a party, and hope the bloody eye doesn't distract too many ladies... gotta keep em on my good side, cause the other side looks a little evil...

Some fun pics from the Holidays...

NBC Operation.  Not too tricky for adults, but will be an amazing drinking game once I figure out the rules...
"Beer Recycling Area 4 Feet" with an arrow to the urinals in Max & Erma's Men's room.  This had me laughing each trip to the restroom.
My new GIANT nutcracker to add to my collection
My Current Nutcracker Collection.  I hope my future wife isn't afraid of Nutcrackers, cause that will make it a difficult holiday season for her...
Had a great time at home, would have been nice to stay longer, but my work doesn't afford me the privilege of too much of a forewarning of when I will have free time.  Hope to see you all again soon!
