Artsy Update Bits

finished my Goblin Hoodie back.  Added black on the interior negative space.  I think it makes it pop a bit more.
I also found that red lenses help you see thinner areas of green paint easier heh.  bonus.

Halloween 2014 Updates (Part 3) sewing & application

now onto the last few days and Halloween night...
Set up and attempts...
More stuff to prep & attempt.
Tie all sewn up.
Made it to be a working tie, that could be tightened/loosened, but it kept slipping.  should have made the back longer, and added some weight to the back.
The mask all sewn up.
Put shoes on, took one step, sole fell off of shoes.  no dice on last hoorah for shoes.
Face application, then I touched it up a bit.

Add mask, feeling more into it.
added finger sleeves and gloves, gauze on other fingers.  bloodied gauze dulled in color but was used on fingers and wrists.
Full costume, close to what I imagined.
back, showing jacked and back of mask.
car selfie flash surprise
when i took the gauze off at the end of the night.  I was stained for a bit on my arms and hands.  It rained Halloween night so the gauze got wet and the fake blood got all onto me heh.
Resting mask, still needs some work before it's amazing.
the mask removal process.
Heh I just love this picture...
I guess that's it.  I have done a few minor tweaks to the mask since these pictures.  I have adjusted the mouth, now it moves more freely with the wearer's movement.  I still want to remove the laces and re-sew it with thinner laces.  There are also some knots on the inside I need to get rid of for comfort, but I should be able to get rid of those when I resew it.

yay all the mask work in progress pictures are finally up...

Halloween 2014 Updates (Part 2) painting

Some organization to start it all out.
Painted the backs of the small pieces first to test out a few things.  Ended up using the airsbrush for the main detail parts and sides, and my fingers in latex gloves for some of the back pieces to give a nice swirl before it dried.
Painting the inside of the mask with the newly added textured silicone makes it look real nice and gross.
Quick few blood passes on the face prosthetic.  Very gross, but needs to be a bit grosser
Then night rolled around but it needed done...
Almost lost this little guy.  Part of one of my airbrushes.  tightens the needle.  would have been disastrous if I would have lost it.
The next day it was time to finish it all off.  Finger Sleeves, check
Added more gross to the face piece.
Finger bits painted.
Back piece.  (I touched up the lettering a bit after this pic though)
The other pieces painted
The painted mask and face piece.
Onto the sewing, applications, and night of.

Halloween 2014 Updates (Part 1) prep

too many pics to add at once, so I'll split this up into three postings.  Let's get started and talk about some of the prep this year...
I added an additional layer of silicone on the back of the mask, to thicken up some areas, and to make it look all muscley and gross on the back.
I also re-cast the head support for the straps on the back of the head with the thickened silicone, not as good of a flesh tone as the original cast, but way sturdier.
Initial face piece sculpt.
Was too thin and the clay I was using kept lifting and cracking, scrapped this idea.
Blood Blood Blood.  This was planned to be under the coat, but ya never know when a coat will be removed.  Focused blood on the wrists and areas the tie will be touching.  and the "7" on the back heh.
Had some old shoes that were falling apart so I figured I'd give them one last hoorah and covered thenm with some splatters.
Tested some gauze being soaked in fake blood.  Looks good for the most part, though doesn't smell so nice.
Face mask test 2 and finish.  I used a silicone latex called 3rd Degree which is mostly used for scars and such.  But I decided to quickly throw together an entire face prosthetic with it.
if applied directly to the skin, it will stick until peeled off, just like off of my head cast.
And Clear so the paint will look nice layered on top.  I think there is also a flesh colored version, and maybe a red one as well, I don't remember off the top of my head.
Used the 3rd Degree to cover some fingers as well.
Some creepy finger sleeves.
 Next up the painting...

It's about damned time (Oct 2013 Costume Work In Progress)

Finally.  Only a year and 3 months late...
first head base mold was made, then my head cast nose broke ruining it all.
2nd test was more of a curiosity that didn't pan out at all...
My next idea was to take my head mold and cast a new piece while pulling to make my face thicker and fatter.
Worked well even with the mold issues.  Fat-eD
